This month's Oracle deck is 'The Wild Way' by the amazing Nicola Allan. Nicola utilizes whimsical images of animal ambassadors among the flora and fauna she is deeply connected to in her homeland of Scotland. Here we integrate nature, the zodiac signs, their decans, and the associated Tarot to formulate a combination of historic wisdom through modern guidance.
You can purchase any of Nicola's offerings here.
16. Humility, Virgo, Decan I
This decan is ruled by the Sun and Mercury, corresponding with the diligent implementation of skill associated with mercurial precision that produces, according to Allan, "the creation of shining masterpieces".
At its highest vibration, Virgo energy encompasses integrity, reverence and humility. Fruits of this vibrational signature include inward reflection, organizational skills and attention to detail. At its lowest vibration, Virgo embraces critical perfectionism based in impossibly high standards that lead to frustration and toxic habits.
Virgo's archetype is the healer, and their ultimate desire is to be of service to others, including themselves and spirit. Its co-ruling planet, Mercury, is represented by the god Hermes (Greek)/Mercury (Roman), the divine messenger between heaven and earth, delivering missives to and from the gods.
"Here we plant the tend the garden that eventually produces beautiful fruit and vegetables to display at the local fair or eat with friends and family, or the craft that we dedicate to ourselves to mastering in order to create magnificent pieces to gift or sell." says Allan. To me this highlights the process of creating as the foundation of the created. The more attentive we are, the better the result.
The associated Tarot card for this Oracle is the Eight of Pentacles, from the minor arcana. Austin Coppock attributes this decan to "A Tree Bearing Fruit" as depicted in Allan's rendition of the boar diligently tending to his apple tree. The card "signifies great attention to small matters. . .there is also great humility here, for the old apprentice represents a willingness to put away pride and submit instead to the demands of the craft itself," adds Coppock.
According to T. Susan Chang, "no detail is too small for your attention. We may seek the thrill of public recognition at times, but equally important is the satisfaction of quiet competence. That satisfaction can be found in tasks as small as sweeping the porch, making our bed, or folding your laundry: it can equally be found in polishing your manuscript, tuning up your car, streamlining your process. Learn to love the backstage, for in obscurity, the hidden light is burnished to its greatest shine."
The Eight of Pentacles is known as "Prudence" in Crowley's Thoth Tarot, which reflects the energy discovered in this decan: "the application of care and consideration at every step, ensuring that you exercise good judgment and the application of reason to one's undertakings", adds Allan, perfectly illustrated in her oracle card.
With the humble application of patience combined with nurturing and attention to detail we are ensured a fruitful harvest of the most beautiful kind from the simple seeds of our intentions.
